Before Self-Publishing a Book

The author will need to create an Amazon account. Once that is done, a Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) account is also necessary, using the same Amazon log-in information, because Amazon owns KDP. Both of these accounts are free, but because they ask for sensitive information, the P&L staff cannot do that for you. We will never ask for your banking information or your Social Security number. Of course, you are welcome to contact us if you have any questions, and we can guide you through that process. You might want to read the instructions from KDP on how to open your Amazon and Kindle Direct Publishing accounts (click here for KDP Jumpstart Instructions).
Once your Amazon and KDP accounts are established, in order for our team to provide the fantastic service you deserve, please be prepared to send the following information.
Required
It all starts with the Formatting Service Agreement form. Then, if you want a print book, or if you want an eBook, you will fill in the Formatting Decision forms for the type you want. If you want your book in both print and eBook, please fill out both forms. Most of the information regarding your paperback book will be identical to your eBook. These required forms will be emailed to you upon request.
Once we send you the forms, print the forms, fill them out, scan them, and save as PDF files. Once this is done, attach the PDF files to an email with your manuscript, which should be a Word doc, and send your Word doc manuscript along with the PDF forms to us at plpubandlit2@gmail.com.
Optional
If there’s anything else you want included in the book, either inside or on the back, please send that to us as well. Helpful items you might want to prepare are these: One-Page brief of the book, Author Bio, Cover Concept or Image, Interior Images, Author Photo, Back Cover Text, Cover Color Preferences, Format and Layout Preferences (if you have any), Subtitle, Dedication, Acknowledgments, and Endorsements. Let us know if you want us to explain what any of these items are.
After You Self-Publish Your Book

You should set up an account in Author Central, which is also an Amazon entity. This is where you list your books, write your bio, and describe the book. You can also link your blog to your Author Central site. If you need help setting up your Author Central account, we’ll be there to assist you.
Of course, you are welcome to contact us if you have a question, before or after your project is completed. You retain full ownership of the book, and P&L Publishing & Literary Services assures that your intellectual property is safe.
Important To Keep In Mind
Most authors need an editor to go over their manuscript before it is formatted for publishing. We have editors who can help you at a lower cost than most editorial services would charge, and we encourage you to use this opportunity to improve your work.
Please make sure that your manuscript is complete and correct before submitting it to us for formatting. You’ll be able to make a few minor corrections after our team formats your book. But adding content or making substantial changes after formatting might entail an additional fee.
Right of Refusal
We reserve the right to refuse to format or edit for any reason whatsoever, including but not limited to, what we believe: (1) is false, misleading, or defamatory; (2) is offensive, abusive, or uncivil in tone; (3) is harmful, threatening, or intimidating; (4) contains profanity, hate messages, or personal attacks against others; (5) impersonates another person or misrepresents your affiliation with a person or entity; (6) violates another person’s or entity’s intellectual property rights, publicity, privacy rights, or other legal rights; (7) is otherwise inappropriate or undesirable.
If after receiving and reviewing your submission we decide against accepting the assignment, we will return it to you with a 100% refund of your payment, and we will not be held liable for breach of the Service Agreement.
