Where Have I Been?

I was stunned when I realized I hadn’t written a blog for almost 2 months! Yes, I was busy, but … well, instead of making excuses, here are some events that took up my time.

In early April, I received a call from a pastor who needed my help. The church leadership was considering transferring from one denomination to another, and asked me to oversee the project. That took two very busy months in California, but we got it done.

Before leaving Southern California, we attended an air show in Central California … before the fires broke out. Our older son and two of his sons are pilots, and we had a great time.

We then headed east to attend the wedding of one of our grandsons; it was a long drive from California to Ohio.

Returning home in early July, our 9-year-old grandson, Joshua, came to spend two weeks with us. Although his school was out for the summer, he volunteered to use my 24-year-old DELL computer to begin writing a short story about his family trip. Doing quite a bit of internet research, he did very well and it might become a 65-page booklet. I’m proud of him.

And I taught him the basics of playing racquetball! After he and I played very slowly for 45 minutes to teach him and give him experience in the game, he watched a dynamic, hard-hitting game between Michael (our 42-year-old son) and me. Michael normally beats me, but it sure is fun.

I spent the next three weeks getting caught up on my business of formatting books. It was then that I realized I had neglected my blog. So, friends, please forgive me, and I’ll get back on track. And I’ll endeavor to …

More Reasons Why People Write…

Writing is tedious; it requires patience and enthusiasm. With that in mind, many writers are creative geniuses who change people’s lives. Here are some of the reasons why writers are truly inspiring.

Writing conveys emotion, intellect, and creativity. Reading a well-written novel, poem, or devotional can lift us out of the doldrums of life, lift us to a higher plane, and help us to see beyond our mental and physical boundaries.

So if you have any desire to write, if you’ve ever considered it, or if you are in the process of writing right now, think of your reader and take him or her on an enjoyable or exciting journey.

It takes a lot of enthusiasm to become a good writer. Let your readers feel that enthusiasm, and you accomplish that goal by …

Writing Takes Time, but isn’t always Difficult

I like what best-selling author Randy Ingermanson said in his discussion about writing stories. He likes to start a story to see how it ends because when he starts one, it takes on a life of its own and he writes what’s happening. But remember yesterday’s blog about imagination? Randy has a prolific imagination, and he writes what he sees and hears.

It takes time to write – we have to make ourselves sit down and do it. But it isn’t always difficult if we set our imagination loose and write what you see and hear.

Years ago at a scientific laboratory when I wrote reports for my supervisor, he said, “I just read the report you wrote for me. I’m baffled because it looks exactly the way I would have written it. How do you do that?”

“George, I know the information you need, I know the sound of your voice, I know how you think, and I know your work ethic. Therefore, when I sit at my computer, I begin typing what I mentally hear what you say.” I got a big raise that year.

So, you should “know” your characters inside & out. Then when you begin writing, type what you “hear” them say. Allow yourself to enter the story, and as it develops, write what you “see” happening.

Writing is laborious, but not always difficult. And P&L Publishing and Literary Services is ready to help you publish your work when you are ready. (https://plpubandlit.org/)
